Celebrations of Krishnastami

After marriage this is the first time we are celebrating Krishnastami. Remembered what mom and granny used to do for janmastami and gathered all provisions for the puja.

Krishna Janmashtami is observed on the Ashtami tithi, the eighth day of the dark half or Krishna Paksha of the month of Bhadrapadam in the Hindu Calendart. The festival always falls within mid-August to mid-September in the Gregorian Calendar.

The pooja is performed late in the evening, timed according to the Hindu Calendar to coincide with the birth of Krishna at midnight.Patterns of little children's footprints were drawn outside the house with rice-flour paste, walking towards the house. This symbolizes the entry of the infant Krishna into their homes.

I brought a small silver idol when i went to GRT to exchange deepams on last month . I also placed an idol of Krishna eating butter which i bought from Shilparamam very long back. My neighbor Manasa during her visit to tirumala on last week brought me a small deewanam to place the lord . Really it added more beauty to my decoration. From afternoon i started drawing the footprints by getting suggestions from mom. Later i prepared Poha payasam which is favorite to lord.

On this happy occasion of Krishnastami I wish you all  happiness, prosperity and peace.
